Don Buehler

Don Buehler

President

Don has more than 30 years of experience working in the aerospace, defense and regulatory industries. Prior to founding Export Solutions, Don held a variety of leadership and management roles at GE and the Performance Review Institute (PRI). As PRI’s Export Compliance Officer, Don led the aerospace industry export compliance system for the Nadcap process for three years. His ability to deliver practical solutions and “straight talk” about U.S. export regulations has enabled Don to help hundreds of companies of all sizes with ITAR/EAR compliance.

Don is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the Society for International Affairs (SIA) and a facilitator for, and founding member of, the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG). He lives in Orlando, Florida.

Emmalie Armstrong

Client Operations Manager

Emmalie brings 17 years of trade compliance expertise to the Export Solutions team. She has extensive knowledge and experience in assisting companies with EAR, ITAR, OFAC, and U.S. Customs Regulations. Emmalie has worked closely with a variety of corporations, advising them on the various aspects of international trade regulations. She is an expert at both import and export classification, export and re-export licensing with both State and Commerce, auditing export documentation, and interpreting encryption regulations.

As Client Operations Manager, Emmalie provides management support to Export Solutions’ senior leadership – ensuring excellent client satisfaction and results. She also works closely with all members of the Export Solutions team as a coach and mentor, to share best practices and help our firm continually improve.

A graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, Emmalie majored in International Trade and Relations, as well as German. She is fluent in German. Prior to joining Export Solutions, Emmalie was an International Trade Consultant for JPMorgan and Livingston International. She lives in Windsor, Colorado.

Jim McShane

Jim McShane

Sr. Consultant, Trade Compliance

Jim has more than 30 years of international trade compliance expertise. For five years, Jim acted as Senior Advisor to the Director of the U.S. Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC). In this capacity, Jim investigated company violations, drafted Proposed Charging Letters and assisted in the negotiations of Draft Consent Agreements. He also planned, designed and monitored the corrective action plans for companies with export violations.

Jim has twice been nominated and approved as a Special Compliance Official pursuant to two separate Consent Agreements between the Department of State and multi-national corporations. For eight years, he served as the Global Director of Export Compliance for a multinational group of companies headquartered in Paris, France.

Having worked and lived for so many years in an international arena (specifically in Asia and Europe), Jim has developed a comprehensive knowledge of other countries’ Export Compliance regulations and requirements. A graduate of St. Francis College, Jim lives in Vero Beach, Florida.

Beverly Demma

Sr. Consultant, Trade Compliance

Beverly has more than 25 years of trade compliance experience gained through a variety of roles within several multinational corporations. Throughout her career, Bev has developed a strong background in such areas as ITAR, EAR, OFAC, HTS classification, import regulations, FCPA and anti-corruption requirements, and overall auditing of compliance programs. Bev also has extensive background in writing licenses for both DDTC and BIS submissions, as well as complex Technical Assistance Agreements, Manufacturing License Agreements, Commodity Jurisdiction Requests and more.

Additionally, Beverly served as a board member of the Rochester International Business Council, where she helped develop a local, annual compliance seminar. This event continues to bring governmental agencies to the area to interface with small- and medium-sized businesses who may not have the opportunity to attend larger conferences during the year. Bev continues to be involved with the council as an “ITAR Expert” and panelist.

Beverly received her Master of Arts degree from SUNY Brockport in History and holds several industry specific certificates, including CUSECO and CIP. She lives in the Rochester, New York area.

Bruce Cathell

Bruce Cathell

Sr. Consultant, Trade Compliance

Bruce has more than 20 years of experience with ITAR and EAR regulations and serves as an advisor and consultant to Export Solutions. His background includes both U.S. Government and client work in trade compliance. Additionally, Bruce has conducted trade compliance audits of companies both domestically and internationally. As a former Program Manager with the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Technology Security Administration (DTSA), Bruce interfaced directly with U.S. Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) on policies, license approvals and regulatory interpretations under the ITAR. He has also worked with more than 100 different U.S. companies on a variety of ITAR-related compliance issues.

During his career, Bruce has been responsible for drafting and submitting hundreds of complex TAAs, MLAs, CJs and license applications. He has spoken at a variety of conferences and industry training sessions on trade compliance issues. Bruce holds a Master of Science degree in Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He lives just outside of Washington, D.C., in Ashburn, Virginia.

Rebecca Yeager

Trade Compliance Consultant

Rebecca has 25 years of international trade compliance experience having worked both in-house for large multi-nationals as well as for a service provider. Rebecca is also a Licensed Customs Broker. Her specific areas of expertise are in the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS), the Customs Regulations and the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR).

Throughout her career, Rebecca has worked with a wide range of exporters and importers (retailers to manufacturers; consumer products to high-tech electronics) on various compliance projects. Rebecca has also helped to develop and implement relevant and practical corporate policy and procedures to ensure best practice compliance. Rebecca’s experience both in-house and as a service provider allows her to understand the challenges facing exporters and importers as they work to achieve the highest levels of trade compliance.

A graduate of Dickinson College in Pennsylvania, Rebecca lives in New York with her family.

Alisha Jefferson

Trade Compliance Specialist

Alisha brings 7 years of professional experience to the Export Solutions team. She is well-versed in a variety of import/export compliance topics, including: ITAR, EAR, U.S. Customs Compliance, FTR and other regulations. During her career, Alisha has worked extensively on a variety of DDTC and BIS licenses, including TAAs, MLAs and CJ Requests. She has also coordinated large volumes of import activity, working with brokers and freight forwarders to help manage the flow of traffic to/from foreign destinations in a compliant manner.

Some of Alisha’s career accomplishments include: Leading a team to create a company’s first and only visitor database control system; Updating and revising export classifications for ITAR and EAR in an extensive product database; Creating and revising company policies/procedures to stay current with the regulations; and working with General Counsel on Voluntary Self Disclosures and related compliance improvement matters.

Alisha is a graduate of Eastern Florida State College and also holds a CUSECO certification. She lives in Melbourne, Florida.

Clint Shewchuk

Trade Compliance Specialist - Canada

Clint brings 30 years of experience working in the telecommunications, defense, and IT industries. He has held a variety of compliance roles during his career, including serving as the Controlled Technology Director and Permit Lead at Nortel Networks’ Global Trade and Compliance (GTC) department. Clint’s expertise centers on export compliance relating to the transfers of technology, product and compliance processes. He is a subject matter expert on the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) regulations. During his career, Clint has focused on improving existing policy and procedures for R&D companies, while supporting IT architectures and security models that minimize compliance risks in global environments.

With an educational background from the Algonquin College, University of Ottawa and Carleton University, Clint is a certified Life Cycle Materiel Manager (LCMM) for the Canadian Department of National Defense (DND). He is also a member of the Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters. He lives outside of Ottawa in Almonte, Ontario, Canada.

Karla Niemi

Trade Compliance Specialist

Karla brings more than 18 years of import/export compliance management experience. Her background covers a wide range of regulatory knowledge and expertise. This includes ITAR and EAR regulations, as well as other governmental agencies, such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, Department of the Treasury, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).

A licensed U.S. Customs Broker since 2000, Karla is adept at helping organizations navigate every aspect of their import/export business. She has broad expertise in preparing and securing Commodity Jurisdiction Requests, Advisory Opinions, ITAR/EAR licenses, and Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs). She also has significant knowledge of securing approvals for technology transfers, Foreign Person employment, and deemed export management/compliance for a variety of research and development projects. Karla holds Masters of International Business and Bachelor of Business Administration-Management degrees from New Mexico Highlands University. She lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Tom Reynolds

Vice President of Operations

Tom brings 15 years of professional experience to the Export Solutions team. His career includes staff positions at two of the most recognized companies in the world – GE and Disney, where he gained a wide variety of communication, training, marketing and project management skills. Tom has worked with a wide range of different companies to help them improve their compliance to U.S. export regulations. In his current role, Tom manages the administrative, financial, marketing/sales and other responsibilities for the Export Solutions team.

A member of the Society for International Affairs (SIA), Tom lives in Orlando, Florida.

Julie Cathell

Julie Cathell

Sales Associate

Julie has more than 15 years of professional experience in the accounting, finance, office management and teaching fields. Prior to joining Export Solutions, Julie worked as a Financial Analyst at Booz Allen Hamilton in Tysons Corner, Virginia. While there, she worked with a number of financial models to analyze complex information, and also served as part of the proposal team developing cost estimates and preparing numerous contracts.

Julie started her career with Telos Corporation in their accounts payable department, then quickly excelled in this role, eventually working her way to a Staff Accountant role with Telos. Julie has also worked with special needs children for the Loudoun County School System. In 2013, her peers awarded Julie with a special recognition award for her contributions to the school system. Julie holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Central Florida. She lives in Ashburn, Virginia.
